How to make a simple laser level from a pointer

In construction and decoration, accuracy is essential, which can be perfectly observed with the laser level. This is an expensive tool, so buying it for a one-time repair is not practical. For small jobs, you can make a level yourself from a point laser pointer. It costs less than $ 3, which makes homemade a budgetary alternative to a specialized tool.

Laser Level Assembly Materials

To make a homemade level you will need:

• wooden block 30x30 -20 cm;
• tube (for the outer diameter and length of the pointer);
• a motor from a children's toy;
• crown battery;
• crown terminal with wiring;
• mini keyboard switch;
• miniature mirror from cosmetic powder or lipstick;
• ballpoint paste;
• laser pointer.

For assembly, a hacksaw, a glue gun and a soldering iron will be used. Ideally, in the future to install and adjust the level, use an adjustable tripod.

Build level from pointer

First you need to make a basis for the level. For this, a 30x30 mm block is suitable. It is enough to cut 20 cm.
A tube of thick cardboard (or plastic) is glued to it with a glue gun. It is selected in such a way that the pointer fits tightly into it. The length of the tube is approximately 15 cm.
At the end of the bar farthest from the end of the tube, a motor is glued from the child's car. Its shaft is exposed to the focus line of the pipe cavity.
It is necessary to assemble the motor power system. To do this, a mini-switch is soldered to the wiring of the terminal installed on the crown.
The battery with it is glued to the bar. It remains to choose a suitable length of wiring to solder it from the switch to the motor. A direct wire from the terminal is soldered to the second motor contact.
Now you need to take a small mirror. Finding this is not difficult - peeling off any unnecessary female cosmetic bag. The smaller and lighter the better. It should find the center and draw a transverse line. An adhesive layer is applied along it and a stick from a ballpoint pen paste or a stick from Chupa-chups is pasted.
A glued tube is mounted on the motor shaft. If the mirror is balanced correctly, then when you turn on the engine, the design with a homemade blade almost does not vibrate.
The level is ready, it remains to fix it on a tripod. This is done in different ways, depending on the design of the stand. In my case, I need to press the nut into the block and screw the tripod platform onto it.

How to use

A pointer is inserted into the level tube.
Since it enters with force, its button is clamped and the LED lights up without stopping. Now, if you turn on the motor, then the mirror rotating on its shaft will hit the laser beam.
As a result, the device will make a point of an even horizontal line illuminating the nearest perimeter of the walls.
It can be used as a guideline when laying tiles, hanging cabinets, fixing the cornice of a stretch ceiling, marking strobe, etc.
The beam is very even.

Do not forget about safety!

• Do not use a high power laser pointer (max 5 mW).
• Avoid contact with the laser beam in the eyes.
